Z-SHED – INTERVIEW

If this blog were a party then it would most likely be the Z-Shed (myspace). Operating an open-minded yet strictly bass-heavy music policy these guys are throwing some of the best parties going. I caught up with Ben to get the down low:

SxS: Memers of the Z-Shed gang, introduce yourselves…

Z-Shed: The Z-Shed is a weird gang made up of DJ’s, producers and sound systems. The people mostly involved are Absnif, Skain, Armada, Snatch, Pirate Sound System, DKS, Canine Sounds, the Peanut factory, Z, and ginger Kate. Some people have been there from the beginning when the party was run in Watford and other people we have met through a mutual love of large basslines.

SxS: So how did it all start?

Z-Shed: I moved from Kent to go to college in Watford and pretty quickly discovered that although there was big music scene it was mainly tattooed hardcore kiddies or Hed Kandi luvvies. After a while I met some people who were into the same sort of stuff as me and we started going to a lot of free parties in London and from that we started putting on our own parties back in Watford. We held Z-Sheds in pubs, peoples houses, fields, warehouses, pretty much anywhere we could put a rig. Then in 2005 I moved to Dalston and have tried to carry on doing the same thing since.

SxS: Tell us about that zombie

Z-Shed: There’s not that much to tell really other than if you see one there is more than likely a Z-Shed going on very near by.

SxS: What’s the Z-Shed philosophy?

Z-Shed: Just to have a laugh and keep pushing fresh artists who aren’t tied down to any particular genre.

SxS: What have been the standout moments in Z-Shed history?

Z-Shed: We recently did an amazing party with Random Audio records. Kanji Kinetic and L-Vis 1990 came down to play and we also had this crazy four-piece electro outfit called Monster Zoku Onsomb over from Brisbane. People were literally bouncing of the walls, it was a seriously heavy night.

SxS: What does the future hold?

Z-Shed: More venues, more parties, more havoc, more bass.

SxS: Finally, give us the heads up on what’s rattling your bass bins

Z-Shed: All of these very, very loudly:
